Your First Pilates Class? Here's What to Expect

Warm, welcoming guidance from your friends at Happy Place Pilates

So you’re thinking about trying your first Pilates class—yay! Whether you're brand new to movement or simply new to this method, we’re so excited to welcome you. At Happy Place Pilates, we’re all about creating a space where you can feel supported, strong, and maybe even a little surprised by what your body can do.

If you're feeling nervous (that’s totally normal!), this guide will help ease your mind and let you know exactly what to expect from your first class.

💛 First of All: You Don’t Have to Be “Good” at Pilates

There’s no such thing as a perfect Pilates body—or a perfect Pilates practice. We believe movement should meet you where you are. Whether you’re working with injuries, haven’t moved in a while, or feel unsure of your coordination, you belong here.

🧘‍♀️ What to Bring (and Wear)

  • Wear comfortable clothes you can move in—think leggings, a fitted top, or whatever makes you feel good.

  • Grippy Socks are required for cleanliness and safety.

  • If you have long hair, please tie it back so it doesn’t get in your way while moving.

  • You don’t need to bring a mat—we provide clean mats and props in the studio.

  • Bring a water bottle, and leave your shoes and belongings in the cubbies when you arrive.

🌼 What Happens in a Class

Every class is a little different, but most include:

  • A grounding moment to connect with your breath

  • Core-focused exercises with full-body movement

  • Spring adjustments (we’ll walk you through these!) if you’re in a reformer class

  • Layered workouts, meaning we offer options and modifications for every level

  • Stretching and mobility to help you leave feeling open and refreshed

You can and should modify at any point. Whether you’re craving a challenge or looking for a gentler option, we support you listening to your body.

💬 Can I Ask Questions?

Yes, please! We love questions. We want you to feel safe, confident, and connected during your time here. If anything feels off or confusing, just speak up. This is your class.

🌈 What You Won’t Find Here

  • No judgment

  • No pressure to push past your limits

  • No competition (except maybe with your own expectations)

🥰 After Class: How You Might Feel

You might feel:

  • A little taller

  • More connected to your breath and body

  • Gently sore (in the best way!)

  • Proud, energized, and maybe even a little blissed out

Final Thoughts

Trying something new takes courage, and we’re honored you’re considering doing it with us. Every body is welcome here. Whether you come once or find your new routine, we hope you leave class feeling like you’ve found a little slice of your own happy place.

We can’t wait to meet you!
